Unarikun is the mascot of Narita City. The eel-airplane hybrid character represents Narita International Airport, the gateway to Japan, and the freshwater eels of Narita, particularly the eel products surrounding Millenium-old Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. According to legend, eel dishes were prepared for pilgrims visiting the temple. Gradually, eel became a local specialty. Unarikun was instated in 2010. It was even selected as Japan's No. 1 mascot!
