This uchiwa was produced in Boshu. The main features are the rounded handle and lattice-shaped frame. The Chiba boshu uchiwa, Kyoto Kyo uchiwa, and Kagawa Marugame uchiwa are collective known as the "Big Three." Pleioblastus simonii and Phyllostachys bambusoides, which are grown in southern Chiba Prefecture, are durable and elegant. Therefore, they are used for the frame and base of uchiwas. Uchiwas may be small, but crafting one is highly complex. First, bamboo poles are shaved into thin strips and folded into the shape of the uchiwa. Then, the fan material, either paper, cotton, or silk, is adhered to the frame. Finally, the edges and handle are painted.
