Kagawa lacquerware is renowned worldwide. The olive and Sanuki udon lacquer bowls in the picture are the works of Mr. Mitsuru Nakata. A semi-transparent lacquer was applied to preserve the texture of the wood before hand-painting. This series of works received a number of recognitions both locally and nationally, including the Kagawa Prefecture Product Contest and the Chairman's Award at the 49th National Lacquerware Exhibition hosted by the Japan Urushi Ware Federation of Cooperatives.
