The Tanabata Picture Lantern Festival, held every August in Yuzawa City, is a time-honored celebration of traditional Japanese culture. During the festival, hundreds of lanterns painted with images of beautiful women in ukiyo-e style are hung throughout the streets and alleyways, casting a brilliant glow over the Yuzawa summer nights.
