Choshi City is a city located in the northeastern corner of Chiba Prefecture. In Choshi, one can see the earliest sunrise in Japan, the 1300-year-old Iinuma Kannon Temple, rock formations dating back 200 million years, and the Choshi Fishing Port – one of Japan's three largest fishing ports. However, the most famous attraction in Choshi City remains the Inubosaki Lighthouse. Commissioned by the Japanese government and built by the British Empire during the Meiji Restoration, the lighthouse is celebrated as one of the top 100 lighthouses in the world. The foundation and tower of the lighthouse are painted pure white, contrasting with the pure blue of the surrounding seawater. It is said that the nearby rock formation, Inuiwa, and the surroundings embody the beloved dog of the samurai Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
