Kuniaki Kuroki is a national treasure of Japan. He uses western glass-making techniques to reflect Japanese sentiment, traditional aesthetics, and regional customs. Mr. Kuroki has been engaged in his craft for half a century, and he fully utilizes his immense skill in manipulating light and shadow within his glassworks. He is a deep admirer of Edo artist Ogata Korin. As a show of respect, he often inlays gold foil into his work to recreate scenes from Japan. His works have been such an inspiration to the glass craft of Japan that he was named "Modern Artisan" by the Emperor of Japan.
