Boats are a key form of transportation for the Island of Okinawa. During the era of the Ryukyu Kingdom, the imperial trade fleet was the island state's primary source of economic wealth. At the time, the Ryukyu Kingdom paid tribute to the Ming Dynasty via sea routes to obtain Chinese porcelain and silk and resell them to Europe. These sea routes also ferried Japanese weaponry and lacquerware to Southeast Asia. The wall art depicts an ancient vessel sailing the seas.
