Lomita originates from the Spanish word "mound." In 1542, Spanish missionaries settled on a hilltop and cultivated the land into a pasture. Today, Lomita is a small city under the jurisdiction of Los Angeles. Since 1907, the petroleum industry has been the pillar of the city's economy. Nevertheless, Lomita has managed to maintain a rustic charm. The city celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2007. The keyring in the picture is a souvenir from the event.
