Detroit is the largest city in Michigan and the birthplace of the American auto industry. General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler are all headquartered in Detroit. The city was transformed into an arsenal for the Allies during WWII. It was also the first city in the United States to emerge from bankruptcy during the Great Depression. The terracotta ornament in the picture depicts the cityscape of Detroit, perfectly preserving the skyscrapers of the 1920s and 1930s.
