The eagle on the emblem of the United States, it clutches an olive branch in one claw and arrows in the other, representing a strong desire for peace, but will always be ready for war. Many mistakingly believe that the eagle on the Great Seal is the white-tailed eagle. In actuality, it is a species of sea eagle native to North America - the bald eagle. The bookends in the picture are in the shape of bald eagles with open wings.
