Mar-kun is no ordinary seagull. It is the mascot of the Chiba Lotte Marines. It was introduced wearing an unnumbered Lotte Marines jersey in 1992, and becoming the teammate with Wei-Yin Chen, a Taiwanese expatriate baseball player in Japan.  Mar-kun is a fairly popular baseball mascot in Japan, getting its own Twitter account in 2012. It has also made multiple trips to Taiwan to support its players in away games.
