Colored glass has a long history in the western world, dating back to the beautiful stained glass windows of ancient Roman churches. By comparison, glass craftsmanship is relatively new in Japan. Nonetheless, it has evolved into a unique craft fueled by the passion of Japanese artisans. The glass vase in the picture was created under temperatures in excess of a thousand degrees Celcius by an artisan with decades of experience. The shape of the glass was manually blown. Therefore, no second exists in the world.
