This uchiwa is printed with one of Japanese ukiyo-e painter Katsushika Hokusai's greatest works, "The Great Wave off Kanagawa." This was the work that put Mt. Fuji on the world stage. Set against the backdrop of Mt. Fuji, Hokusai depicted boatmen struggling to survive as they compete with the ferocity of nature. The contrast between movement and stillness, near and far, is awe-inspiring. Hokusai's works are not only displayed in museums all around the world, and his art form has inspired generations of Western Impressionist painters. Today, "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" can be found in souvenirs of all shapes and sizes.
