Southern California has the largest Asian population in the United States. With the boom in Asian-run hotels near Los Angeles in 1974, several dozen Taiwanese merchants relocated to Southern California and established the first commercial association in the United States. Nearly half a century later, the Taiwan Hotel and Motel Association of Southern California has overcome economic volatility.
