This crystal boot is a symbol of the cowboy culture in western Texas. Fort Worth, just outside Dallas, was the origin of the western frontier. Today, it is the main cultural hub in the southwest of the United States. Economically, Fort Worth was once at the center of cattle drives and the last supply depot for herders and ranchers. The city's population began to rapidly increase with the demand for beef in the early 1900s. Cattle sold for $3 in the south could fetch $30 to $40 in Dallas. However, the trek from the south to Dallas was tedious and riddled with bandits and unpredictable weather. It was precisely the arduous work of cattle driving that shaped America's unique cowboy culture.
