Tokyo is a popular tourist destination for visitors to Japan. Therefore, Narita City in the Chiba Prefecture, home to Narita International Airport, has become an essential first stop for visitors entering Japan. In 2010, Narita City unveiled its mascot, Unari-kun, an eel-airplane hybrid character. Unari-kun represents Narita International Airport, the gateway to Japan, and the freshwater eels of Narita, particularly the eel products surrounding Naritasan Shinshoji Temple. Unari-kun even has its own YouTube channel.
