This wooden bowl was handcrafted by guest Joel Belding and is inlaid a plaque featuring the crests of Taoyuan and Irvine, as well as the names of both cities’ mayors. Irvine’s city crest is composed of three elements. Given the city’s strong emphasis on public safety and family life, the leftmost element symbolizes community and family. The center represents the letter “I” in “Irvine.” While the city is home to approximately 500,000 trees, which might lead one to think the rightmost symbol represents a tree, it actually depicts Irvine’s official vegetable—the asparagus, paying homage to the city’s agricultural heritage.
