Microsoft, the technology company, founded by Bill Gates, is best known for its Windows operating system installed on almost every computer. Microsoft is headquartered in Washington State and inextricably linked with Taiwan, the island of technology. It established a subsidiary in Taiwan in 1989, and investments have increased over the decades. The construction of a new data center, which is expected to create over NT $300 billion in value over four years, was just completed in Taiwan in 2020. The crystal commemorative plaque in the picture is a souvenir presented by Microsoft to thank Taoyuan City for participating in the 2017 Smart City and Innovation Expo. Taoyuan City Government also signed an MOU with Microsoft on the theme of smart cities in the same year.
