The lotus is a profound symbol of Buddhism in Vietnam, a country with a strong Buddhist influence. Most Vietnamese consider the lotus as the national flower. Therefore, it is often the subject of their internationally renowned traditional hand embroidery art. The artwork in the picture was gifted by Director Vu Tien-Dung during his first trip to Taoyuan. The symbolic significance of this gift fully highlighted the sincerity of his inaugural visit.
Flag: The name of Vietnam's flag is “cờ đỏ sao vàng” (“red flag with a golden star”). It was adopted on Nov. 30, 1955. The flag has an aspect ratio of 2:3. In the center is a yellow star (gold star) that symbolizes the leading position of the Communist Party of Vietnam. The red background symbolizes revolution and victory. The five points of the star represent workers, peasants, soldiers, intellectuals, and youths.
