1944 was a year that changed the fate of Guam. That year, the U.S. military drove out the Japanese army and liberated Guam. Realizing the island's strategic value, the U.S. established a naval presence and the Andersen Air Force Base in Guam, effectively changing the fate of the entire Pacific region. These bases became the westernmost stations for the U.S. military and central military hubs in the Pacific region.
