During the French and Indian War, British troops took control of Fort Detriot, which was later simplified to Detroit. A large fire outbreak in 1805 nearly burned all of the buildings in Detroit except a warehouse with a brick chimney. These two remnants of French rule can still be seen on the flag of Detroit today.
